Wednesdays in Lent: Movies as Spiritual Practice

Wednesday, Feb 29, 2012, 6:30pm

Movies are an experience of mindfulness. We are attentive, aware, involved, engaged, and without distraction for a significant period of time . . . We can use movies, then, as a way to strengthen our mindfulness muscles and as a way to encounter a deeper part of ourselves.

Tim Irwin, artistic director for Indianapolis’s own Heartland Film Festival, is our speaker this evening. After working for a year as the Truly Moving Picture Award program director, Tim recently moved into a new role as artistic director, responsible for the overall artistic and programmatic direction.

He joins us to talk about ways to attend to the spiritual power of meaningful films and share a short film from last year’s festival.
