Trinity Outreach Grants: Spring 2007

Trinity Church supports the work of neighborhood organizations, churches, social service organizations, and other entities through our grants program. Because of our financial support, many new and exciting programs and services now exist throughout Indianapolis.

The following organizations received grants totaling $41,000 for the spring 2007 grant cycle:

Bethlehem House is a program for indigent drug and alcohol abusers who choose to overcome their addictions and learn how to become productive citizens. The purpose of this grant is to provide support for transitional housing for clients for two months. $4,000

College Mentors for Kids is an organization that links at-risk youth with educational opportunities. With the support of university and college student intervention, College Mentors for Kids empowers youth to set goals and become lifelong learners.  The purpose of this grant is to implement the College Preparatory and Financial Planning Initiative Program. The program is designed to introduce children to key financial concepts such as saving, wise spending, check writing, and principles of a market economy. All activities will have emphasizes on financial literacy and higher education. $3,000

Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church is concerned not only with the individual's spiritual welfare but their physical well-being. The purpose of this grant, a collaboration with the Mapleton Wellness Center, is to provide scholarships for 20 youth to participate in a one-week comprehensive childhood oObesity intervention and pPrevention camp targeting middle school youth who are economically disadvantaged and obese. The program will provide medical, professional, educational, nutritional academic learning, exercise and follow-up sessions for participants to help them develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. $2,500

Forest Manor Multi Service Center is a social service center on the northeast side that provides a variety of services and programs to enhance the quality of life of those most in need. The purpose of this grant is to provide a 10-week summer enrichment day camp for 150 youth between the ages of 4-17. Ujima Camp will engage participants in violence prevention strategies, conflict resolution, recreation, physical fitness and general camp activities. $2,500

Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Inc. collects and distributes food to not-for-profit organizations that feed the hungry and needy in Indiana. The purpose of this grant is to continue to utilize the Gleaners mobile food pantry to distribute food to needy families and individuals in the mid-north neighborhood. $7,500

Good News Ministries is dedicated to proclaiming the gospel among disadvantaged people of the inner-city and establishing them in Christian living while extending needed services and shelter.  The purpose of this grant is to provide a summer youth program for nine weeks for youth ages 8 to 18. The program will offer a variety of educational, life skills development, Bible study classes, computer lessons and recreational activities. $2,500

Habitat for Humanity of Joseph County works to end substandard housing in the county by building simple, decent homes for low-income families.  The purpose of this grant is to help support the building of a single-family home in Johnson County.$2,000

Jameson Camp exists to provide lifetime memories and lifelong skills for children 7 to 17 years old through residential summer camp, year round youth leadership development, outdoor adventure education and outreach programs for school groups and home schooled children. The purpose of this grant is to fund Camp Tataya Mato, which is a unique camping experience for children affected with HIV/AIDS. $4,000

Martin Luther King Multi Service Center is an organization that provides a variety of social services and programs for families and individuals in need of assistance. The purpose of this grant is to fund a new initiative, Empowering Families in Poverty, which is a six-month program for qualified persons providing financial assistance, training, guidance in credit counseling, debt management, income tax issues, legal advice and educational opportunities. $4,000

Mid-North Food Pantry, an affiliate agency of the Mid-North Church Council, is a community based food pantry that distributes on a once a month bases, supplemental food products to those in need who resides in the pantry's service area.  The purpose of this grant is to increase the number of food distributions from once a month to twice per month. $4,000

The Academy of St. Albans is a new outreach project of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, located at 46th Street and Emerson Avenue. This request is for start-up funds to implement an after school program beginning the fall of 2007 for grade school children.  The program, offering a variety of educational, life skills, academic and other experiences will operate Monday through Friday, from 4 - 6:30 p.m. $1,000

Use What You've Got Prison Ministry works to keep families connected by providing transportation from Marion County to 13 Indiana prisons for family members to visit incarcerated loved ones. The ministry also promotes family wellness through education, supportive resources, and spiritual enhancement. The purpose of this grant is to assist in the purchase of a 24 passenger handicapped accessible bus to transport family members for prison visitations. $2,000

Young Audiences Indiana empowers children to achieve their creative and intellectual potential through arts in education. The purpose of this grant is to help support Summer Arts for Youth 2007, which provides arts programming for underserved youth. $2,000
