Scholarship Update

At the parish annual meeting on Jan. 27, 2008, discussion ensued concerning the vestry's decision in December to discontinue Trinity's long-standing grants program for college scholarships. Views pro and con were expressed compellingly and with passion. The outcome of that conversation was a non-binding resolution, passed by a margin of five votes (43-38, with abstentions), requesting that the vestry reinstate the program.

At the vestry's regular February 2008 meeting, the vestry responded by deciding:

• That for the 2008-2009 academic year, need-based scholarships would be offered for those currently receiving such scholarships (pending approval of applications submitted). Honorary scholarships would not be offered for 2008-2009.
• That a task force be assembled and charged with studying and making recommendations concerning the longer-term future of Trinity scholarships.
