Summer Sunday School
July 13 - Aug. 24, 2008
This year, it's all about water. Did you know that water is mentioned in the Bible more than 750 times? We will explore stories of water in both the New and Old Testaments. There are somany good stories that we'll need most of the summer to play with them!
What to Wear
We are going to be outside most of the summer so we can experience the water stories with gusto. Favorite play clothes and flip-flops or sandals are the best attire.
What We'll Do and Talk About
- July 13. Baptism. We'll start summer Sunday school with an outdoor baptism in the Lemler Garden. Children will prepare their own baptismal bowls and scented oil as they ponder what baptism means to them.
- July 20. Jesus calls the disciples and performs his first miracle. The children will cast their own nets and get a flavor of what it means to be a fisherman. They will also make a sea craft, try some water experiments and taste-test different sparkling grape juices.
- July 27. Jesus and the Sea. The calming of the sea and walking on water is the theme for today. We'll experiment with sinking and floating along with making waves and watching the waters calm.
- Aug. 3. The Creation Story. We'll recreate water and landforms like those in the Garden of Eden.
Aug. 10. Noah's Ark. We will work with different materials to try and create our own floating vessels that will hold animals.
- Aug. 17. Moses. We'll attempt to make our own baskets for Moses, try to part waters and see what we can find from tapping a rock.
- Aug. 24. Jonah's Big Fish Tale. We'll help act out the story, create a sea storm with a parachute and more.
Every week, we will offer children opportunities to create with water, experiment, dive deeper into the stories and experience fun with friends. It's an opportunity to be outside and experience the fullness of God's stories and love.
Children return to church in time for communion.
